April 9, 2010 - DIGEST of events

Wow. I've already completed my first (work) week here in Thunder Bay. What a whirlwind. I'm actually quite exhausted. Here's what's happened so far.

The drive up with Mum took 3 days (about 7 hrs driving per day). We stopped in Grayling, Michigan for one night, and Wawa, Ontario for the other. The drive was fairly uneventful, but we explored a few sites along the way. Most interesting locations were closed for the colder season. I marked them all on a piece of paper so we could see them on the way back. It will be a longer drive back, lol. So far, though, seen a few different things:

- Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park
- Chippewa River (Plaque Site)
- Wawa's giant goose
- Mackinac Bridge
- Aguasabon River Gorge
- Terry Fox Monument
- Marina Park

Settled in here okay. It was really hard saying goodbye to home, to the family, to my furry babies... It was a bit rough to start. Had Easter Monday dinner with my supervisor, her family, and my "landlady / housemate". What lovely people! My housemate is kind of a strange lady, but very nice. Extremely chatty, sometimes too much. But a good person. My supervisor made a GREAT first impression.

Met everyone at the CNIB office and love them! What an awesome team of professionals. They made me feel right at home. I even got my own office while I'm there. It's kind of cool... I feel so grown up ^_^

Already had my first work-trip to Kenora and Dryden (left early Wednesday morning and got back this evening). Met some very special kids, saw some very interesting lessons/assessments/brainstorming sessions. Hard to explain. But for me, amazing to observe.

I miss EVERYbody. Booked 2 visits home (April 29-May 2, and May 21-24), but please don't expect a lot of social time from me. I will probably not want to leave my house.

This weekend: bit of shopping, visiting the local farmer's market, walking around Centennial Park with my supervisor and her kids, and dinner with my housemate's cousins.
